Food and service were great. Person who answered phone when my wife was trying to determine whether or not they could accomodate our party was very rude. We tried it anyway and were overall pleased with our experience.

We’ve visited this place after a local friend recommended it and absolutely loved it. Food was so delicious. I’m stealing their special onion rings recipe (the one with bacon and cheese) and going to cook it now at home like that all the time. Beware, portions are huge. I couldn’t eat my main meal and took it home. She-crab soup is stunning. So meaty, loved it! But please, fix that AC in the further corner on the right side of the dining room. That was the only complaint we had.We will definitely come back though!

It was an excellant choice since we were visiting Brunswick. The dirty rice was very good and the CRAB CAKE❤❤❤❤😍😍😍.... Our waiter was very friendly and honest, I'm sorry didn't remember his name. Our drink(a punch) don't remember name but was top notch, good. Will definitely return on my next trip to Brunswick. The best thing was the cutlery was very, very clean. Don't know bout you but that's a BIG +

If you come to at Simmons and don't eat at Barbara jeans you have just wasted a trip. The best she crab soup I've ever had paired perfectly with sweet jalapeno corn bread and pumpkin bread. Server was outstanding and the regular food is always perfect.

Busy, yet casual place. Their breads are great, highly recommend the pumpkin and the jalapeno cornbread. Country fried chicken was delicious and cooked perfectly. The chocolate desert was like underdone gooey brownie wonderfulness. Menu had lots of options and something for everyone. Service was all around good and attentive without being over-bearing.

One of may favorite places to eat on SSI. Great local spot. Great comfort food!

Delicious home style food. I do not eat meat and they prepared a mushroom burger for me. These are great folks. Retired military owned. Very comfy and delicious. Great downtown location.

You will definitely not be disappointed! The best!

Local gem with friendly and safety focused service (sanitizers at entrance, all staff masked, seating properly social distanced), and on cute block of local shops and restaurants. My favorite was the She Crab Soup, super creamy with generous lumps of crab and perfect level of spiciness, and the jalapeño cornbread baked fresh in house. My server Connie was super friendly and not only brought all three types of housemade bread for me to try (loved the pumpkin and whole wheat too in addition to the cornbread) and even offered diners who were there at closing time some extra bread of our choice to go! Also got the tasty crab cake(5oz) with two sides: white cheddar grits and daily special of Lima beans with ham. Would definitely come back next time I’m in town!!

The best she crab soup ever! Crab cakes were absolutely wonderful. Everything was fantastic!

Not sure what the rave reviews are all about. The service was excellent, the food was mediocre. I've had better southern food at Po Folks. My wife had the chicken fried steak, which is pictured. It was a huge portion, but the steak itself was awful. The taste and texture were unlike any chicken fried steak we've ever had. I had the fried fish. It was also not very good, the fish itself was mushy. The cole slaw was also very run of the mill. The best part of the meal was the mashed potatoes and bread assortment.Definitely not worth the money. What good is huge portions if they're basically inedible. Neither one of us finished our meal. Definitely not worth the money.

Exceptional! The food was delicious and tasted very fresh. I had the tuna steak cooked medium and it was divine! They also offer a complimentary assortment of rolls and cornbreads as an appetizer and they are delicious. There are plenty of healthy options for those trying to avoid gluten and dairy. Customer service was excellent! I will most certainly come back!

Totally yummy! We had been walking around the area, then left for a separate excursion, but I knew we had to come back here for dinner. No regrets. Wonderful food (I had the crab cakes) and above and beyond. Fellow traveler ordered a steak and wanted horseradish sauce. They didn't have any, but had someone who knew how to make it so he whipped it up real quick and brought it over. Seriously, don't pass this place by! Lots of shopping around for afterwards too!

Love trying new places to eat! Their squash casserole was so delicious! But the service was very sub par for a place that was not even remotely busy!

Great food, service was outstanding but if you are looking for a place to beat the heat the a/c is ok but not great.

Crab cakes were as advertised - all crab, virtually no filler, no lump crab though, children's meal are more than ample and can be shared with two.

We had the coconut shrimp, crab cakes, and shrimp and grits. Shrimp and grits were awesome, crab cakes were to die for. Highly recommend, however, our waiter was either not properly wearing a mask or not wearing one at all when leaning over the table.

Had lunch with another couple, and enjoyed an excellent meal. I ordered the COUNTRY FRIED STEAK with cream gravy, added green beans and squash casserole as my two side dishes. The food is excellent, even if it is a bit pricey. My only suggestion is that they offer a LUNCH MENU at a lower price point. By the time you add tax and tip you can easily approach $20 per person, and the portions are huge.

Food was excellent. Service was excellent. Location is convenient to the pier. Highly recommended.

This is a must visit each time we travel to St. Simons! Unfortunately this visit we had to use “Carry Out” service only due to C-19. My wife had the blackened chicken and I enjoyed the shrimp dinner. The Chocolate Stuff desert has to be tasted to be believed. If you are a chocolate lover, you will love this treat! One of the best on the island!

Absolutely horrendous customer service. Called for take-out. Guy answering phone was simply hateful. Wow! Most folks are at least trying to be agreeable during COVID. NOT this place! Barbara - you have a great reputation and your food is delish. Fix this!UPDATE (2 days after above review): Great news! We had the opportunity to dine-in at Barbara Jeans today. AND it was so good. Friendly service (Jennifer was a great server!), fantastic food (as ALWAYS!), and busy but quick. So glad they redeemed themselves today!

We were driving through on a Sunday Morning and decided to make a stop for brunch. We walked through the downtown area and were so pleasantly surprised! Barbara Jean's not only represents the quaint, set back in time feeling of St. Simon Island, but the food was amazing! I had a veggie platter. The beans and dirty rice are a must try. The soup of the day was Bacon, chicken, shrimp chowder was excellent. Let me add the Barbara Jean is the hostess and her husband comes to every table to greet everyone with a funny sense of humor.We will be back!!

Visited twice! Both times, staff were outstanding! Great, dirty rice & crab cakes Staff recommenced iced tea did not disappoint!

Wow! This place is something special. A truly southern restaurant. Delicious and decadent food, no frills, and huge glasses of sweet tea. The fried cod, fried shrimp and crab cake were all perfectly breaded and heavenly. Amazing tartar sauce! I sampled the blackened tuna and pork chop of others at the table and they were stellar. Red beans and rice were prepared perfectly. They also give the table a sampling of bread with yeast rolls, pumpkin bread and jalapeño corn bread. Highly recommend!

We had an incredible family lunch. We had a wide range of food on the menu and everything was very good. Crab cakes and Coconut Shrimp were awesome. So was the Meatloaf, Turkey and Dressing, Chicken Fried Chicken, etc...

Wonderful food, we had shrimp & grits, a salad and they served the tastiest bread! Server was friendly and attentive. We were traveling but if we're back this way we will be back!

They are the nicest most hospitable people. The food was good and they give you a lot of it. I was referred here to try the crab cake and it didn't disappoint. It was full of crab meat. The dirty rice is a must try.

The BEST Southern cuisine this side of Savannah!!! EVERYTHING was perfectly seasoned....great portion sizes.....great service!!! And the crab cakes are a MUST!!!! No filler, just crabmeat. When visiting St. Simon's, go eat at Barbara Jean's!!!!

Sweet tea was best part of meal. First bite of crab cake and it was over. They were almost burned. All three of us were disappointed with our meal and we drove 2 hours for the meal.

I get that it’s Memorial Day weekend, but they had me on hold for 30 MINUTES!!!!! The hostess initially picked up and put me on hold. She picked up a second time to only out me on hold again. In all my years I’ve never been put hold. Me and family love coming here, but I can tell you that I will not be returning here again after being treated like that.

Nice place, good service, but it wasn't really crowded because of the corona virus social distancing. Only seating every other table. About a 30 minute wait time, mid afternoon on a Sat. Probly a lot longer at noon and supper meal. I was disappointed with their crabcake, which their sign outside says they are famous for. Very bland. The appetizer we ordered was chicken fingers with 3 different batter flavors. It was huge, the fingers looked like a whole boneless breast. There were 6 ps of chicken on the plate. The cook must have been from New Orleans because the red beans and rice, cabbage and dirty rice was the best I think I have ever eaten. Prices are about average to high for being in a tourist kind of atmosphere. You won't leave hungry, there's plenty on the plate when it arrives.

Food was pretty good as well as staff. The smell of the restraunt was one that smelled of sewage though. Could be a bit cleaner but would eat there agian in a take out setting.

True southern atmosphere. Ice tea is more popular than any soft drinks.

The restaurant has a diner like atmosphere with tables and booths. The booth was a little to vertical for me but was not uncomfortable. One downside is the bathrooms accommodate only one person at a time. Not good if you have an emergency.The pot roast was tender and juicy with a wonderful flavor.The corn was firm but not hard with a slightly sweet flavor.The pumpkin bread was tasty and firm. It had a smooth texture and did not crumble. It was not as moist as I like but it was not dry. The beef tips and rice had a great taste and texture. It was juicy and paired well with the rice and gravy. The chicken has good flavor but to dry and firm for me.The loaded baked potato was excellent. Just the right texture and firmness. The spinach was a little runny and mushy for my taste. The jalapeño bread has a good flavor and texture with the right amount of firmness without being crumbly. Our server was attentive and pleasant. I enjoyed lunch with my family.

Supposed to be Southern food yet, the green beans had no pork grease in them! That's not Southern to me. Cornbread with jalapeños and kernel corn? Again, not any Southern cornbread I know. The sweet tea was good.

Down home food for a value price. This place has great flavorful food and excellent service. Everyone in our party of four enjoyed their entree.

Staff is friendly and helpful, food is great. Shrimp fritters were awesome, The Coastal platter was yummy. Fritters were large and the platter is sharable. The crab cakes are top of the line. Grits were good, the Green beans were great.

This place is absolutely amazing. . . from the loaded onion rings, to the mouth watering sides, everything was perfect. And topping if off with the "chocolate stuff" made this dining experience absolutely epic. The service is great. The staff is friendly and engaging, and the location is perfect when spending a bit of time wandering the village. Will definitely be going back.

6 Stars!!Chicken "Finger" entree seemed to be basically a halved chicken breast. Pecan crust was exceptional.Honey mustard was delicious.Everything was great from the coconut shrimp (kids meal) to the red beans and rice (almost thought that they had stolen my own recipe).Great service staff.Will definitely be a MUST STOP on our future returns to the tranquil paradise, that is Saint Simon's.
